Workers
Compensation Reform
We laid a foundation for the 1993 legislative reforms by placing key
news stories in the national and statewide media between 1991 and 1993.
NBC News carried a story about a young black businessman, Michael
Stennis who told NBC: “I survived the LA Riots, but I can’t survive
workers compensation abuse.” Governor
Pete Wilson wrote the story of Michael Stennis into his State of the
State Message. Speaker Willie Brown later said he knew he had to do
something about workers comp reform when NBC News started covering it.
