Electricity Deregulation

Since 1995 we have worked on this complex policy issue representing (at different times) industrial, commercial, consumer, and power generating interests.  We helped forge a unique coalition of oil companies, environmentalists, consumer groups and manufacturers in 1995 that stopped the first California Public Utilities Commission-backed deregulation plan (the Commission’s POOLCO Plan).  In 1997and 1998, we represented consumer groups attempting to reduce the utility industry’s stranded investment costs.  In 1999 we represented retail electric providers who were resisting a labor backed “re-regulation” bill AB 1421 (Wright).
